AHRC Arts and Humanities Research Council
The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) has an annual budget of over £75 million, and supports research from traditional humanities subjects, such as history, modern languages and English literature, to the creative and performing arts.

One scheme which the AHRC runs is Knowledge catalyst which aims to assist SME's.
Knowledge Catalyst
This is a new UK wide scheme sponsored by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) as part of its provision for knowledge transfer in the arts and humanities.
The scheme is aimed at micro enterprises and SME’s usually with less than 50 employees at the time of applying. If you are a larger organisation you may be more suited to the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships scheme which supports projects of greater duration.
Organisations can be based in any field or area but the project must utilise research in the arts or humanities.

BBSRC Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) is the UK’s principal funder of basic and strategic biological research. To deliver its mission, BBSRC supports research and postgraduate training in universities and research centres throughout the UK, including BBSRC-sponsored institutes, and promotes knowledge transfer from research to applications in business, industry and policy, and public engagement in the biosciences. EPSRC Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) are the main UK government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences, investing around £500 million a year in a broad range of subjects – from mathematics to materials science, and from information technology to structural engineering. EPSRC
ESRC Economic and Social Research Council
The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is the UK's largest funding agency for research and postgraduate training relating to social and economic issues. It supports independent, high quality research relevant to business, the public sector and voluntary organisations. The ESRC's planned total expenditure in 2007/08 is £181 million. At any one time the ESRC supports over 4,000 researchers and postgraduate students in academic institutions and research policy institutes.

MRC Medical research council
The UK Medical Research Council (MRC) is a national organisation funded by the UK taxpayer. They promote research into all areas of medical and related science with the aims of improving the health and quality of life of the UK public and contributing to the wealth of the nation. MRC
NERC Natural Environment Research Council
NERC’s mission is to gather and apply knowledge, improve understanding and predict the behaviour of the natural environment and its resources. It was established in 1965.
NERC funds and manages research and training in earth system science, advancing knowledge of planet Earth as a complex, interacting system. Its work covers the full range of atmospheric, earth, terrestrial and aquatic sciences, from the depth of the oceans to the upper atmosphere. Because the environment is global, they work with scientists and other partners around the world. NERC
Science and Technology Facilities Council
The Science and Technology Facilities Council was formed in April 2007 by merging the Particle Physics & Astronomy Research Council and the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils. With an annual budget of around £500 million, the Science and Technology Facilities Council:
- funds the best research within in astronomy and nuclear and particle physics;
- enables the research community to have access to the best facilities in the world;
- provides leadership and leverage in the development and implementation of strategies for large facilities;
- increases the UK technology capability, engagement with industry and knowledge transfer.
